Fat Injections or grafting are cosmetic surgical techniques that can be used to enhance or plump up different areas of the body as an alternative to synthetic implants.
During this procedure, fat from the patient’s own body (usually from the abdomen) is extracted and then injected or placed into another area that is lacking sufficient fat volume and fullness. Swelling and bruising usually occur following this procedure, but resolve within two to three weeks. Fat injections and grafting provide safe, long-lasting, natural-appearing results to volume deficient areas of the face such as the cheeks, lips and nasolabial folds (laugh lines). These procedures can be performed alone or more commonly in combination in other surgical procedures like facelifts and lower eyelid surgery.
