Mini Tummy Tuck

Stubborn fat or loose, excess skin in your abdominal area can cause you to feel frustrated about the look of your midsection. Major weight loss, pregnancy or genetics may cause abdominal skin to lose elasticity and to weaken or separate abdominal muscles. A mini tummy tuck, also referred to as partial abdominoplasty, is similar to the more involved traditional tummy tuck procedure. However, mini abdominoplasty only treats the lower portion of the abdomen (the area beneath the belly button). It is an ideal option for those who have smaller deposits of fat and excess skin around the abdomen area and do not require as extensive of a procedure as a traditional tummy tuck. The advantages of the mini tummy tuck are that the procedure requires fewer incisions, a smaller scar and a shorter recovery time than the traditional tummy tuck, but this procedure may not be appropriate for everyone.

A mini tummy tuck can yield beautiful results in those who eat healthy and exercise regularly but are unable to eliminate excess skin and stubborn belly fat below the belly button. However, if you are pregnant, plan to get pregnant, or plan to lose or gain a substantial amount of weight you should consider postponing a mini tummy tuck procedure until afterwards.

Benefits of a Mini Tummy Tuck

  • Reduce stubborn lower abdominal fat that is resistant to diet and exercise
  • Remove excess skin in the lower abdominal region
  • Firm and flatten the lower abdominal region

Procedure

  • During a mini tummy tuck a C-section-like incision is made right above the pubic area, and excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen (below the belly button) are removed.
  • The remaining skin is re-draped more tightly over the contours of the abdomen and the incisions are closed with sutures
  • Unlike the full tummy tuck, mini tummy tucks do not address weakened or separated abdominal muscles, so these muscles would not be altered in any way.
  • The results will produce a flatter, tighter and enhanced lower abdomen contour.

Recovery

  • Mini tummy tuck is an outpatient procedure that can be performed in our AAA accredited, state of the art surgery center. It does require you to have a driver to and from the surgical facility.
  • A mini tummy tuck requires a shorter recovery than a traditional tummy tuck. Following your tummy tuck surgery, a compression garment is placed around your midsection, to minimize swelling and offer added support as you heal. You will need to wear a compression garment for two to three weeks or as directed.
  • Your abdominal area may be red, swollen or bruised. It may also feel tender, uncomfortable or numb for several days while your body heals. A prescription for pain medication may be given to take if you experience any discomfort during your recovery.

Results

  • Although some patients notice results immediately after surgery, it typically takes one to three months to see the full aesthetic results after the swelling subsides.
  • You can expect to take about one to two weeks off from work. You should get plenty of rest and avoid any strenuous activity during that time.
